Effective wound management requires accurate assessment, evidence-based intervention, and consistent prevention strategies to reduce complications and improve patient outcomes.
This CPD course is designed to equip healthcare professionals with advanced knowledge and practical skills in wound care and pressure injury prevention. It provides a structured clinical approach to wound assessment, staging, dressing selection, and risk-based prevention strategies.
Participants will explore wound healing physiology, skin integrity, and factors affecting healing, followed by detailed guidance on pressure injury classification based on current international standards. The course emphasizes accurate staging, including differentiation between Stage 1, deep tissue pressure injury (DTPI), unstageable wounds, and advanced stages.
Special focus is placed on clinical decision-making using structured frameworks, including:
Participants will also learn how to select appropriate dressings based on exudate level, wound characteristics, and infection status, as well as apply advanced interventions such as antimicrobial dressings and negative pressure wound therapy where indicated.
Prevention strategies are a core component of this course, including:
Risk assessment using validated tools (e.g., Braden Scale)
Repositioning protocols and pressure redistribution
Skin care and moisture control
Nutritional support and multidisciplinary care
The course also emphasizes accurate documentation, SBAR communication, and early escalation to prevent complications such as infection, sepsis, and delayed healing.
This course integrates evidence-based guidelines with practical clinical scenarios to strengthen clinical reasoning and promote safe, patient-centered wound care across healthcare settings.
